Adaptive Recreation promotes healthy and active lifestyles with the goal to improve the overall quality of life for people with physical disabilities through education, exposure to adaptive equipment and adaptive recreation experiences in the community.

Adaptive Downhill Skiing

Easter Seals Cardinal Hill has partnered with the folks at Perfect North Slopes Indiana to provide you the opportunity to participate in adaptive downhill skiing. Perfect North Slopes provides a wide variety of adaptive equipment for participants, as well as adaptive ski instructors to help you along the way.

Adaptive Kayaking

Join us for evening kayak adventures with our partners from the Canoe Kentucky “Creating Ability” program. It is available to participants with spinal cord, neuromuscular, stroke and orthopedic disabilities and their families. Canoe Kentucky provides all the equipment and volunteers to make this a possibility.

Sled Hockey

Easter Seals Cardinal Hill and Bluegrass Adaptive Sled Hockey have partnered to give you the opportunity to participate in the great sport of sled hockey. Sled hockey is for both youth (6+) and adults who have a physical disability keeping them from playing ice hockey in a standing position. Practices are held at the Lexington Ice Center and equipment is provided. Family and friends are encouraged to participate.

Wheelchair Basketball

Easter Seals Cardinal Hill is proud to sponsor the “Hill on Wheels” Wheelchair Basketball Team. Hill on Wheels is a community-based team that provides an opportunity for individuals with a permanent lower extremity disability to play basketball in a competitive environment. Hill on Wheels is a DIII member of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association. The team has been extremely successful in its history, capturing its first DIII National Championship Title in 2008.

Hand Cycling

Hand Cycling is a great way to get out with family and friends and ride for enjoyment and exercise. Easter Seals Cardinal Hill has a few bikes for people with lower body disabilities that are available to try and/or use for various events. You must make an appointment to check out a bike to go over safety and operations and to sign waivers.

Shooting Sports

Easter Seals Cardinal Hill works with several organizations in the Commonwealth that provide opportunities to participate in various shooting activities including archery, skeet shooting, target shooting and more. No experience or equipment is required. Events will be scheduled and advertised.

Adaptive Golf is a great activity that can be played by people with all sorts of physical disabilities. Several of the Lexington Parks and Recreation golf courses are equipped with adaptive golf carts that give people the ability to play alongside their friends and families. There is also an amputee golf tournament that occurs annually in the Commonwealth.

Adaptive Bowling

Easter Seals Cardinal Hill is in the planning phases to create a monthly bowling group at Southland Bowling Center in Lexington. Adaptive equipment is available for use, including bowling balls with grip handles, ramps and bumpers to make the experience fun for all.

Adaptive Rock Climbing

Easter Seals Cardinal Hill offers folks opportunities to participate in rock climbing activities. This is a great activity for people with physical disabilities who want a challenge! Experience is not necessary and equipment will be provided.
